Following a five minute Budget Republication Hearing, Board Vice-President Hund called the regular board meeting to order with all of the board members present except for Healey and Yocum.
Breiner moved to approve the amended agenda to include: adding a name to the resignation agenda item. Craghead seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
The Board recognized the Wabaunsee HS Softball team for their great accomplishment of winning the State 2-1A Championship. The team was congratulated and asked to share cake and lemonade with the Board.
WHS Principal Andersen stated that Summer Driver’s Ed program was up and running. The SKILLS students who qualified for national competition will be heading to KC soon for the national convention and competition. Summer School numbers were discussed with Principals Schuckman and Andersen.
Don Westhoff, Technology Director, said that the Apple computer order was almost complete. He will be working on setting them all up to be ready for the start of school.
Craghead moved to approve the consent agenda. McCue seconded. Motion carried 5-0. The consent agenda included: Approved the May 14th Regular Board Meeting minutes; Approved the Treasurer’s report; Approved payment of bills totaling $242,339.55; Accepted the Transportation/Maintenance Director’s report; Approved PDC Minutes from the May 14th Meeting; and Approved republished 2006-07 General Fund and Special Education Budget.
Breiner moved to approve the K-12 Science Curriculum as developed by the Science Curriculum Committee and Facilitated by Smoky Hill Education Service Center. Craghead seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Craghead moved to approve the proposal from SchoolReach, an instant parent contact program, for the 2007-08 school year. McCue seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Hund moved to go into executive session for ten minutes to discuss non-elected personnel. The purpose of the session was to protect the privacy interests of an identifiable individual. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0. The board reconvened at 7:48 PM.
Hund moved to approve the employment of: Janet Morris, WHS/AGS Counselor; Debra Vance, WHS Librarian; Grady Wenderott, WHS Asst. Football Coach; Melissa Huff, Head 7th Grade Volleyball Coach and Head Track Coach, MCVJH. Craghead seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Hund moved to regretfully accept the resignation of Emily Quintanilla, Cook; Debra Ledeboer, Asst. Cook; and Nancy Flach, Bus Driver. Silva seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Hund moved to go into executive session for ten minutes to discuss negotiations. The purpose of the session was to protect the district’s right to the confidentiality of its negotiating position, and the public interest. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0. The board reconvened at 8:00 PM.
Hund moved to approve the settlement agreement between USD #329 and Dan Wagner. Silva seconded. Motion carried 4-1, with Breiner voting no.
The agenda item regarding administrative salaries was tabled until negotiations are completed.
The following was discussed in the Superintendent/Board Members Round Table: The Budget Workshop will be held June 20th. Hund moved to authorize the superintendent to make year-end transfers, as needed, to close out fiscal year 2007. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0. There was a consensus to hold a board retreat with the new superintendent on Wednesday, June 27th, at the district office, at 6:30 PM. A gift of appreciation and well wishes were presented to retiring Superintendent Jackson.
Breiner moved to adjourn. Hund seconded. Motion carried 5-0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.
