Regular Meeting

Vice-President Ron Yocum called the regular meeting to order with all of the board members present except for Bob Roth.
Wilson moved to approve the agenda. Hund seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
Pam Bales, representing MCVEA, told the board that negotiations were ongoing and that the next meeting date would be Monday, June 21st.
Principal Mike Ford reviewed the proposed Pass Key, remediation and enrichment, program with the Board.
Technology Director Don Westhoff stated that the computer orders for the summer were being completed.
Wilson moved to approve the consent agenda. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 6-0. The consent agenda included: Approval of the May l7th regular meeting minutes; Approved the Treasurer’s report; Approved payment of bills totaling $174,665.79; and Accepted the low bid from Lower’s Heating and Cooling of $43,920 for the Maple Hill Grade School HVAC Project in the fiscal 2005 year budget.
Wilson moved to approve the student handbooks for Wabaunsee HS, Mill Creek Valley Jr. High, Mill Creek Valley Middle School, Maple Hill Grade School and Alma Grade School. Craghead seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
There was a first reading of Policy JBC (updated) concerning Enrollment. This new policy establishes a line for K-4 attendance determinations.
Breiner moved to approve an application for students to attend AGS. Hund seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
The Board would like to continue discussing the redistricting study and ask for more options from Gay Hamilton, redistricting mapper. This will be on the July regular board meeting agenda.
There was a consensus of the Board to not have Wabaunsee High School be put on the National Register of Historic Places.
Yocum moved to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss negotiations. The session is required to protect the negotiating position of the school board. Wilson seconded. Motion carried 6-0. The board reconvened at 8:05 PM.
Wilson moved to accept the resignation of Charles Gann for Cross Country and Scholar’s Bowl. Hund seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
The Board accepted the resignation of Bob Roth from the Board of Education. Craghead moved to adopt Resolution 2004-1 that authorizes the Board to fill the vacancy of a school board member. Yocum seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
It was noted that the July Regular Board meeting will be held on July 19th, 2004, rather than July 12th.
Yocum moved to adjourn. Wilson seconded. Motion carried 6-0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:22 PM.
