Budget Hearing and Regular Meeting

A Budget Hearing was held regarding the 2004-2005 school district budget.

At 7:15, President Ron Yocum called the regular meeting to order with all of the board members present except for Linda Craghead.

Wilson moved to approve the agenda. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

WHS Principal Andersen stated that things were going well with enrollment and getting ready for the start of school.

Technology Director Don Westhoff stated that the computer labs at the grade schools and middle school have been set up.

Joe Zeller, Transportation/Maintenance Director, reported to the board the summer maintenance projects that are being completed before school starts.

Principal Schuckman reviewed the transportation changes with the Board.

Yocum moved to approve the consent agenda. Hund seconded. Motion carried 5-0. The consent agenda included: Approval of July 19, 2004 Regular Board Meeting minutes and July 26th Special Board Meeting minutes; Approved the Treasurer’s report; Approved payment of bills totaling $489,194.94; Accepted the Food Service Director report; Approved the 2004-2005 budget as published; and Accepted the low propane bidder of Flint Hill LP Gas. at .95 cents per gallon for the 2004-2005 school year.

Yocum moved to appoint Bill Roth as school board member to fill out the term of Bob Roth. Wilson seconded. Motion carried 4-1, with Healey voting no.

Breiner moved to send the Board Policy Handbook to KASB for review. Yocum seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

David Breiner was appointed to be the Government Relations Board Representative.

Yocum moved to keep the six Board Member districts with one at-large position with the reconfiguration that keeps the population of each district as equal as possible. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 4-1, with Healey voting no.

Yocum moved to increase the Bus Activity Trip pay to $8.00 per hour. Hund seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

Wilson moved to approve emergency and certified substitute teachers as presented. Certified: Janice Heder, Judy Hess and Dan Plummer; Emergency: Cindy Manz and Jenny Yocum. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

Yocum moved to regretfully accept the resignation of Jeanette Schuler as WHS Art teacher. Wilson seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

Yocum moved to employ Caroline Smith as WHS Art teacher, Lori Zeller as Cook, and Kirk Wallace as Mill Creek Valley Middle School Custodian. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

Yocum moved to authorize Superintendent Jackson to secure bids for a preventative maintenance contract to cover the heating and air conditioning units district-wide. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

Wilson moved to adjourn. Breiner seconded. Motion carried 5-0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:22 PM.
