Today we celebrate a group that keeps our schools running in ways that often go unseen, but never unfelt by our students. It’s National School Lunch Hero Day, and across USD 329, our kitchen teams show up every single day ready to serve far more than a meal. They serve consistency. They serve care. They serve connection.
From early mornings prepping food, to managing inventory and compliance, to working through long lines with a smile, these ladies do it all. And in the middle of that work, they take the time to learn names, check in on kids, and make sure every student feels welcome in their space.
That matters.
For many of our students, the lunchroom is more than just a stop in the day; it’s a place where they are seen, supported, and cared for. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of the people behind the counter.
We are proud of our Charger lunch crew at WES, WJHS, and WHS. They represent the very best of what it means to serve others with pride and purpose. Please join me in thanking our Lunch Heroes today. They truly fuel great days for our students.
