Leadership
To clear up some questions about collaborative starts: Purpose-to be used for Collaborative time between teachers, staff & administration. Much of which will be used for curriculum/professional development- horizontally (IE-both 3rd grade teachers meet) & vertically (IE-WJH teachers meet with high school teachers to share what needs to be taught to prepare them for high school and PMS teachers meet with WJH teachers to share what needs to be taught to prepare them for WJH). State standards and The Leader in Me are to be matched to teaching lessons for appropriate grade and subject areas. Goals, timelines, lesson plans are to be matched to these standards. Administration is present to ensure accountability, provide guidance and resources based upon these goals. Not to be used for IEP, SIT meetings, etc. Why not "early releases" in the afternoons? Students released 45 minutes earlier than normal and then asking them to come back for practices, activities. Staff leaving early to "prepare" for or being involved in practices and activities. Students leaving campus or on campus without supervision has the potential of creating major issues. Accountability-students are to build their student leadership notebooks from these goals & timelines. Through intentional teaching of TLIM model they are responsible for their own destinies. Setting and tracking goals is paramount to student success. Teachers are there to facilitate, provide guidance and direction; giving students the information and model to be successful & effective citizens. Teachers are responsible to intentionally teach what they'll be testing-IE standards to be tested on local, state and national tests. By mastering these respective standards we should ensure our students have the background and ability to be successful & effective citizens. This will be measured by the KSDE report card and percentage of students who are successful & effective students. The goal is for 75% of our students to be successful & effective (per KSDE guidelines) as evidenced by them having any one or combination of: Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, Industry Certification-IE CNA, Welder; enlisted in the Military or having a post secondary job. Times-Buses will pick up and run 25 minutes later than normal times. All district classes will start at 8:35 AM Breakfast-Those asking for breakfast will be receiving it either when they arrive at school or at the "second chance" breakfast times per respective buildings. I am empathetic to this being an inconvenience and some adjustments may need to be made during the process, but the expectation is that we will have Collaborative Starts beginning Wednesday, Sept 5th as outlined above.

Another fantastic volleyball tournament to start the season! Couldn’t have done it without all of the table workers, gate keepers, officials, team volunteers, and especially the hospitality hosts! Many complements yet again about the outstanding hospitality room!
